Reprieve

The weather is beautiful - low humidity, not too hot... this is what summer should feel like.

I am walking back from the pool where I have dropped the Diva off to spend three hours at a swim party.

"Would you like to stay and have a beer?"

(yeah right) "No, I think I will enjoy some down time, thanks."

I am filled with energy. It is kind of like being a teenager with your parents away for the night/weekend. All this free time, no supervision. What should I do!!

The possibilities seem limitless.

I could watch one of my movies that I never get to watch when she is home?

I could clean the house knowing that she would not be right behind me "creating" in the areas that I had just cleaned?

I could have sex?

I could spend the time working (ok, bad idea)

I could make an amazing dinner or dessert, just because...

I could finish these books that I can't finish because she keeps running upstairs to show me this, have me come downstairs to look at her latest creation or fort, or simply she doesn't want to be alone so she wants to play while I try to read.

I could do basically anything.

The house, for three fabulous hours, is all mine.

So I took a nap..

Naps.

The option that's always right.

Ahhh, uninterrupted sleep. Nice choice.

Work on that list...

Wombat - I think you are going to have to travel up here to enjoy it! ;)

Just Run - I am not a big nap kind of person, but I notice that, when the house is all mine, it is what I tend to do. It is fabulous!

Scotty - The list is in the works. I might just post it as you may need a crew.

Scotty said...

No crew necessary. I do all my own drilling and screwing.

I appreciate your dedication but, well, I know you are aging and I don't want to wear you out. The list is extensive.

Scotty said...

Aging?!? I can assure you this list you speak of wouldn't wear me out.

No we're talking!

Sarah and I take a low-key vacation to North Carolina over the weekend and what do we spend much of our time doing? Sleeping. It was awesome.

Scotty - You are quite sure of yourself! (And confidence is a plus. )

Aaron - I have to admit, there is nothing like a nap. I like naps shared with a loved one as well.

there is NOTHING like a good cat nap. glad you enjoyed your three hours of freedom!

As far as I'm concerned, napping in the middle of the day is a lost art. I don't know what makes it an 'art' but it just is.

The Exception said...

Brookem - Especially when you have a cat to nap with!

Airam - I would agree. There has to be a reason that the Italians and Hispanic cultures have kept the afternoon nap as a part of their lifestyle... and they are the masters when it comes to art!

Oh it's so true. I remember whenmy son was young and my ex and I dropped him off for a few hours. We hurried back home, hopped in bed, and went to sleep.

There is nothing else like the luxury of being able to nap in the middle of the day!

The Exception said...

Mike - It is just funny. As a parent we crave time. When we finally get the time to do all that we want... we take a nap

Willow - Isn't there a company out west that encourages naps? Is it Google? Given that we are on the East coast - I am guessing that we will never see such a work benefit!!

Who would you be having sex with?

The Exception said...

Teri - Leave it to you to find that challenge. Now, were there someone with whom I could have had it, I might have chosen that option.

cathouse teri said...

Oh men are easy. I'm sure you'd have had no trouble, since you know that. ;)

The Exception said...

Teri - Shhhh... I thought that was a secret? I like to pretend to be quite naive about such things! ;)

The nap was the best choice by far, though I was kind of hoping that you would have made the dessert first ... so that I could steal it while you were napping.

Never, ever underestimate a nap. I am awaiting the day I can tell the twins 'I told you so' when they realize how wrong they were to complain about taking a nap ;-)

Napping is good! In the middle of the afternoon with the sun high in the sky--simple the best.

Work always takes me away from my new prefab family so when I have 'downtime', I find myself always wanting to be with them.

I spent too much of my past life doing things with me. In fact, I got really tired of me.

I think this goes back to my folks being divorced... what was the question again?

I don't think anyone commented on the sex thing... but I think if I was going to have downtime, I would do that (with my wife). I'm not sure if it was necessary to add that.

I hope you enjoyed your nap.

I love having my girls here but damn I can get so much done when they are away :)

Dan - Making a sweet was tempting but... the bed was calling my name.

Michael C. - The other parent's curse "I told you do..." The first being "I hope you have a child just like you one day!"

Croaker - yes, with the windows open, a light breeze... *yawn* I just started the day and am ready to play George Castanza(sp?) and take a nap in my office!

Ryan - It is nice that you are excited about being married!!

Sex is always tempting - that said, a nap is a treat. There are those days when the house is quiet, you are with someone you love, and wow... you could get hot and heavy, but... there is something nice and relaxed and intimate about simply napping together.

There are days when I feel like I have enjoyed my own company just a bit too long as well - I get over it, but... there are those days.

Scorpy - Here, here!
