Pure Attitude

She's stands under 5'5" and isn't what most would call beautiful or attractive and yet... she is lord and master of her world.

And it puzzles me.

I know many women who are successful.  They are attractive, intelligent, and confident women.  Success is something that they have achieved through hard work and, most probably, politics.

Then there is the dynamo described above.  She takes credit for the work of her employees, uses her Executive Assistant to manage her real estate on the beach and plan personal parties, has a nanny to care for her kids, and happily blames her team when the chips are down despite part of the issue being her management style, lack of  prioritization, and involvement.

And yet she is not only a success but continues to climb the corporate ladder.

Currently she is changing jobs - a bigger and better job.  But to hold this job, her husband (the breadwinner of the family) must work out a conflict of interest  with his employers.  If push comes to shove, she will take the new job and he, well, he will be finding something new.  In order to keep him and appease her, this international company is bending over backwards...

All because of, what?

It isn't because of an attractive woman.  She doesn't yield great political power or serve as the center of a high rolling, heavy hitting network.

From what I can tell, she is walking and talking, pure New York, Steam roller,, head cock on the block, Attitude!

And it works for her.

I just don't get it.

I understand that confidence can do wonders both personally and professionally.  A good work ethic, management style, and solid background/experience/education... all benefit ones professional career.  Knowing the right people, the ability to play politics, and even ones looks can open doors...But if we remove all these factors... well, okay, perhaps she has a solid education and experience... and she has a strange knack for building a solid team (for which she takes credit) to make her look good...

It is pure and simply attitude.  Over the top, can not be stopped, get out of my way or I will mow you down attitude!

Everyone sees through her bluster and posturing, and yet...they promote her, hire her, bend to her will... and choose to continue working for her...

WHY?????

Yet another good reminder that just because something has all the makings of successful, it doesn't mean it actually is.
I'd rather have the respect of a million than a million dollars, I think.
As for why they promote these people, I do not have a clue.

It's one of life's great mysteries, isn't it? A former colleague of mine fitted the bill you described. In her case it was her energy and ability to cover all bases. Despite being a nasty piece of work who made everything difficult for those around her.

That's a darned good question and if you ever find the answer, market it quick and make a fortune with it! I've seen some people like that too in my working days and it never ceased to amaze me how some people can manage to grab all the breaks seemingly imaginable and keep on the move -and upwardly mobile.

None of it really makes sense to me - yet I know someone who works for her, is changing jobs with her, knows exactly what she is like and yet... is okay with the new position STILL working for her.

I would rather have the respect as well!!
