Giggle in Her Talk

Yesterday I sat in the waiting room listening to the Diva giggle and laugh with the orthodontic assistants for forty minutes. She is in the beginning stages of having an expander made to adjust her cross bite. How many people, adults or kids, laugh their way through such an appointment? She had bands fit, molds taken, and she giggle and laughed, and entertained.

While she was laughing, I was ordering dinner, attempting to call someone with whom I could chat, and finally just settling into the idea that for, the next thirty minutes, I could sit peacefully and enjoy the sound of her giggles and happiness.

After a while I found myself smiling, "that's my kid." I had no idea what was happening in the back, but she was happy. (There was no gas involved, by the way.)

The Diva has a happy heart and a joyful spirit. My dad thinks that this is as striking and captivating as (if not more than) her looks. She, unlike me, can not melt into a crowd or turn into the fabulous fly on the wall. She exudes energy. She laughs, entertains, helps, and is interested in everything that the world around her offers.

As a parent, I always love my daughter, but there are times in which I am overwhelmed by that love. While I sat there, listening to her chatter away, I was consumed with love for this child. There are times when I have no idea how such a child could be my daughter. We are just so different. I am so thrilled that she is mine.

When the appointment finally ended, she came bouncing out of the back balloons in hand as if she had just been to the zoo or a playground. She was ready to move on to the next adventure, and I was happy to join her.

Oh, I'm sure gas was involved! :) I wouldn't recommend having another. It seems that everyone that has happy babies the first go-round isn't so lucky the second. I was a happy baby.. my brother and sister? Not so much.

2XA - No worries there, she is it. I have heard the same thing and have seen it in action.

Matt - She is 7 - and was a fun baby!

Oh what a delightful child! I am sure the dental assistants wanted to keep her!She sounds like a character in a Lucy Maud Montgomery book...:)

Any kid who can laugh at the dentist's office is a pretty amazing kid! The only way I might laugh at the dentist's office is if they tell me that my visits and root canals and such were free!

Mike - Yes, the joyous laughter is magical.

LeiselB - She loves Anne. I have never thought about her in that light but now that you say it, she does have that "Anne" intensity and love of life. We love the books.

Beth - I hear that. I cringe when I go to the dentist as I am never sure what I am going to "need" next!

Such an adorable post! I love to hear about the parent/child relationships!

Bre - She is a funny kid and usually fun to write about. That said, she does have her "moments!"

She must melt the hearts of all her teachers/babysitters/etc too.

And what a loving mom you are... :)

Do you think a lot of this comes from you being happy around her? Or her getting her personality from you?

The mind of a child is a wonderful thing. Being able to see something that most people dread (the dentist) as a fresh new adventure. Seeing the world through eyes of wonderment is a true blessing.

ALU - I try but she is just a great kid. Apparently she asked if she could have a blue retainer decorated with butterflies when her six month lock down is over. But of course! They do make such things! She amazes me with her approach to life.

Scotty -Did you guess which song the title of this post was from?

I am a happy person, but I was not like her as a kid. Both her parents are more reserved and bookish - she is bookish but quite outgoing and energetic. She is her own little person.

Seven Seas - It is fun to discover the world through her eyes; a true gift.

Scotty - You, a nerd, sorry, it doesn't fit. You have those great suits!

Did you have to google it? ;)
