Thinking aloud

Several things caught my attention on the news this morning -

The results of a recent study hit the news today. It appears that couples, health permitting, are enjoying a healthy sex life even after they become senior citizens. Apparently, couples between the age of 57 and 85 average intimacy 2 to 3 times a month.

This gives me great hope for my future, especially has my birthday is coming soon.

It does not give me much hope for couples like Jake and Liz - 8 years can turn into 55 before you know it!

The other interesting bit was that "Cinderella Pollution" is a previously unknown aspect of the life of the city dweller.

Cinderella pollution is actually noise pollution - traffic, construction, emergency services - sounds that are a constant in many of our lives.

A few weeks ago it was reported that living within a certain distance of a major traffic artery contributed to heart problems. I breathed a sigh of relief as I live in a gem of an area tucked away next to county land.

And then I remembered the huge highway that runs behind my house. Blocked by trees and only visible at night in the winter - it is still just... there.

And now, the sounds of my environment could be causing damage to my body without my knowledge and/or without any visible sign. The noise, that I usually don't even notice as I am so used to it, could end up killing me.

That is just weird.

I have spent various days and weeks throughout my career studying things that truly could hurt me, my daughter, this city, etc... yet, in the end, I could be killed by noise

However, I hope that doesn't happen until I have enjoyed my senior years!!

Two last thoughts for this Thursday -

- I need a new mobile phone and love Nokia. Does anyone have suggestions?

- The Diva loves pasta with red or meat sauce. I would like to find a good recipe, make it, freeze it in Diva size portions, and have a ready supply. Anyone have a recipe to share?

My father tried to fix me up with his best friend after I got divorced. The man was close to seventy. Very attractive man and he and I really are a good fit, but good Lord, it was almost like thinking about going out with my uncle! I just couldn't. My dad said, "Well he needs to get laid." I tried and tried and tried to think of a way to make myself want to have sex with this man, but I just couldn't. I said, "Sorry Dad." Anyway, his friend found a woman, in her fifties, and they have a very active sex life. I love that. Anyway, I know it happens and I have no doubt it will happen with me.

As for phones? I had an LG phone that I loved but right now I have this one and I absolutely adore it!

So where is it that Wombat is talking about love?

And by the way, all of the pictures at my blog, from babies to daughters to racks, are taken with that phone.

I just realized that we have the same link leading to post comments 'Chimed In'... interesting... I was first.

Teri - I will check on that phone. Sprint doesn't seem to like Nokia - which truly sucks! Your dad tried to set you up? I am glad the gentleman in question found someone to enjoy!

And Wombat is at: http://kissnblog.blogspot.com/
His most recent post is about love - a need or a want.

Scotty - a real quote?

Scotty - As far as I am concerned, that is the only time you will come first.

Yes, real one. By me.

Thanks for the direction and good read, commented over there.

Cinderella noise? That's what iPods and AC/DC are for. To block that stuff out.

phone: Nokia's are great. DO NOT get a Motorola Razr - I really, really wanted one (pink of course), got one, and now I hate it. It seriously sucks

Recipe: spaghetti pie - will get you the recipe shortly

Wombat - yeah, don't forget Meatllica.

Kathryn - I love my Nokia. Sprint no longer works with Nokia. I am trying to figure out if I can buy one from the Nokia store and have it work here?!

Spaghetti pie... sounds yummy!

Meatlicca, EO?

Wombat - Yes, Metallica - you know, the group. They are great for blocking out the noise of the real world.

What? You didn't see me as a Metallica fan? ;)

Metallica Black rocks!!

EO, you, a Metalurgist?

It's definitely not a necessity when it comes to phones but I would get one that takes really good pictures. Mine takes crappy ones and I've seen some REALLY GOOD photos taken from cell phones. Sometimes you come across a kodak moment and don't have a camera so the next best thing is your phone and the last thing you want is a grainy shot.

Pasta Sauce?
4 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons dried parsley
1 tablespoon dried basil
ground black pepper to taste
1 (29 ounce) can Italian-style stewed tomatoes, drained
1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes

In a medium saucepan over low heat, warm oil and saute garlic; heat through until the garlic turns translucent, not brown. Add onion and cook over low heat until translucent; 5 to 10 minutes.
Add parsley, basil and ground black pepper; stir. Add tomatoes and cover; raise heat to medium and bring to a strong simmer. Lower heat and add red pepper flakes. Cover saucepan and cook for 25 to 35 minutes.
The sauce can be run in the food processor for 2 to 3 seconds to achieve a more uniform sauce or let the sauce cook over medium-low heat uncovered for 10 minutes or until it thickens.

My parents have lived in a house with a major freeway right in the back yard, with only a chain link fence to separate, since 1970.

They are extremely healthy and so am I!

Willow - I was happy to hear it as well.

Wombat - I am full of surprises!

Airam - I love cameras - so will definitely keep that in mind. Any recommendations?

Ruby - Sounds delicious. Will try post haste.

ALU - Now, that is truly good to hear!!! Thanks.

Teri - I found the study interesting but it is not conclusive. People live to ripe old ages in NYC without issue. Your parents sound fun!

I too mentioned a little thing about the seniors...but in a much different manner of course ;-)

Yeah.. I knew you were kidding. My favorite study is the one Ellen cites:

"A disturing new study finds that studies are disturbing."

Arg, yeah, Exception, noise is nasty! And here I thought I was the only one that noticed this. So much is needless, too - like that incessant, irritating muzak in the grocery store, or the beeping electric carts at the airport. On that latter point, I've been flying a lot lately, and I swear that I would pay twice as much if I could fly in/out of an airport that wasn't jangling my nerves the entire time.... hmm, maybe it's time to invest in that ambassador's club.

Hey! I've been away from blogland for 4 days in Texas w/o computers... I read this article too. I am not so sure how I feel about all that... But if it makes people happy then more power to em!
