07 January, 2010

“I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.” – Redd Shawshank Redemption

There is something liberating about the beginning of this new year.  I am not sure that I can adequately describe the feeling but it is one that has started bubbling to the surface and threatens to spill over into everything around me.

I feel… free!

This is not to say that I ma exactly as there are still steps to take and words to be said and agreements to be reached and likely arguments (discussions) to be had but…

Right now, I feel free!

I am reveling in the feeling.

Maybe that is the word of 2010?  Liberated?  Free?

For the first time, in a long time, I feel like that beautiful bird ready to spread my wings and take to flight – no longer caged by the actions and intentions and thoughts and behaviors and choices of others; No longer drained of energy and emotion through those interactions   - I feel Free!!

I do, too. I am making the choice to be free, even though I am not 100% there yet.

You spoke of words for the year in a previous post--I think mine for this year is just that, choice. I've reflected a great deal lately on the choices we make and how we choose to be, well, free or entrapped.

Happy New Year to you! Be well.
