One of my vices – and one I love to share with anyone and everyone – is reading. I am an avid reader. I read a few hours a day whenever possible. Life without books… I just can’t imagine it.
I am raising a reader too though finding books for her that she likes is a bit more challenging than I ever could have imagined. While I have always been drawn to mysteries and detective works, she likes those books that involve a bit of magic and a lot of adventure.
This is not to say that she only reads books like Fabelhaven, Percy Jackson, and Harry Potter. One of her favorite books is Because of Winn-Dixie which has nothing to do with magic of the magician variety. She also enjoys books about kids – everyday kids, in the height of their kid careers like the Wimpy Kid books, Dork Diaries, and Frendle.
I like to keep an eye on what she is reading – ensuring that she is understanding the book, but also assuring myself that she is reading books that are appropriate for her. While a classmate is reading The Lovely Bones, I have suggested the my daughter try Island of the Blue Dolphins. There is plenty of time for her to read adult books – and there are so many great books written for kids… I can’t imagine rushing her into a world that is there waiting for her as she gets older.
That said, I have to admit that I am reading some of her books as well!!
Yes, there is something wonderful about diving into a book written for younger readers. They are… delightful!
I too love Because of Winn-Dixie, laughed my through Dork Diaries, and am now bewitched by Percy Jackson and his quests. (To be honest, I can’t wait to find out what Percy does next… or how the Greeks interact with their human counterparts!)
The creativity and imaginations of authors… the delight that they provide and give … ah, books and reading!!
I love that this is one of my passions that I share with others, especially my daughter. It is also one of the ways I take care of me!

Reading is such a delight. Reading builds the creative mind as we create images of what we read. It is wonderful that you are passing your passion for reading on to your daughter. Reading will serve her well throughout her life.
Oh, I love reading. Whole days of it, or even weeks of it are part of my dreams. Love it! I think I could really get into Dork Diaries! :)

At the risk of suggesting some titles you already know let me go out on limb with a few books the Diva might like.
Watership Down (Love it. It really does belong on any list of great books - adult or young adult fiction)
Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. (Yea, yea, I know everyone knows these books. But how many have actually read them?)
Treasure Island This used to be a staple for every young reader. Today? Not sure.
There are many other great books. Most of which the Diva has likely already devoured.
