Once upon a time, there lived a mouse…
A little white mouse…
With wonderfully curved ears and a great pink nose…
Oh, and a fabulous, and I do mean fabulous, tail.
This wasn’t just an ordinary mouse. She didn’t spend her time doing what the other mice did. She had a life and adventures all her own.
The mouse also had a secret…
She sang.
She would find quiet places to sing.
She would surround herself with nature and sing.
She put words to song whenever and wherever she could.
Her voice astounded those who could hear it. It filled the air with magic and warmed the heart as it set feet to dancing or souls at ease.
But…
Very few could hear her sing.
This voice of magic and spirit could only be heard by a few.
The mouse wanted to share her talent with the world. She wanted to sing and sing and sing and to have people hear and listen.
No matter how much she tried…
Most could not hear her voice.
This puzzled the little mouse who sang with heart and soul. Why couldn’t most hear her words?
She traveled far and wide seeking answers. What could she do?
She learned that some people might not ever hear her voice as to listen to its melodies, one must listen with the heart. Heart listening is challenging at times, but once people learned how, they could find her music and its magic.
She traveled on; her quest taking her near and far seeking the wisdom of others.
As she walked, she sang. As she sang, she did not notice that more and more people started to hear her music. So focused on the quest was this mouse...
It wasn’t just that these listeners could hear with their hearts, it was that the mouse was finding her voice. With every step she took, every challenge completed, every moment lived… she found her voice and its magic.
Today this little white mouse continues to sing; she continues to share her magic; and her venture continues. She is starting to realize that the words of the wise echo those of her inner voice…
She is beginning to realize that her voice has value and is pure magic… and that she has the power to make it heard worldwide.

TE -- This is a wonderful story. I love the mouse and that you can hear if listen with your heart.
Does she have a name?
Are you planning more adventures with her?
In the meantime, I will open my heart and listen for her voice:~)
Hi,
I love this mouse story...so sweet. You made her seem so real. Love this!
Visiting from Sara's place.
The persistence in this mouse is present in many wonderful writers I know. What a timeless lesson this is for those of us who want to use our voice.
Hi M - Finding our voice...so important, such a journey. I love the way you've captured it, with this sweet little mouse. A part of you, perhaps? A part of all of us, I think.
Beautiful!
I love how you illustrated here that when the mouse began to find her voice the others could listen. It makes me also ponder that when she was singing with her heart she was open to others hearts. Perhaps that lead her to sing for the ones that *would* listen and needed to hear.
Hi TE .. that's a great story .. a little like an Aesop's Fable with a moral to it .. we all need to be more open, listen with our hearts .. and never stop believing in ourselves ..
Thanks - lovely read and tale .. and such a fabulous white fluffy tail .. Thanks - Hilary
As Belinda said, this is a timeless lesson. Not only for us as writers (or giving voice in so many ways), but for everything we care about in life, and our need to share it.
I have fallen in love with this little mouse. I am thrilled to read each thought and comment. Now, if only I had the talent to draw her!! I think she might be a fitting addition to this site.
