The Challenge

"I like to move it move it" sing the animals on the movie Madagascar.  Those animals know how to move.  They pick up their feet, swing from the trees, and shake their booties to the beat.

It is a song that we are singing this week as well.  We are putting on the athletic gear, tying our running shoes, and shaking our booties (and other things that I am not supposed to mention).  Getting active and starting to "move it" is the name of the game.  It is time to turn off the TV, move away from the computer (after you read this, of course) and "move it."

This week the Diva brought home a challenge. Her school is participating in the Presidential Active Lifestyle challenge.

This program encourages children and adults to "move it" for 6 consecutive weeks.  That's right, 6 weeks!  Pure torture.

Last year the Diva met the challenge.  She proudly accepted her certificate and patch then happily accepted mine.

Yes, You read that correctly.  I participated last year.  I was the only adult that took part from her school.  I didn't expect to receive an award, I simply did it as an activity we could enjoy together.

For the 2007-08 challenge, we decided to challenge as many people as we could - all ages, all nationalities, no one is to be excluded.  Thus, we sent challenge information to friends and family all over the world - from my grandparents in their mid-80s to my nephews who just turned 1.  We have thrown down the gauntlet.  From New Zealand to Australia, from Sweden to Canada, and all over the US, We are challenging people to get active!

And now I am challenging you.  That's right, I am extending this challenge to each of you.  That means you in the crocks and you holding the beer... you can't hide behind a newspaper, magazine, or your computer screen forever.  It is time to take off the heels, the sandals, the flip flops, the boots and move it!

It is a fairly straight forward program.  No worries, it doesn't take much time.  The challenge is to exercise 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, for 6 consecutive weeks.  If you are a kid, the challenge is a bit more difficult in that you need to exercise for an hour instead of 30 minutes.

Are you ready to accept this challenge?

Ready to burn a few calories?

Are you ready to "move it!"

I am sure that I could think of a prize to give to all those who participate... but the real reward is a healthy body... and that is something we can all enjoy.

That's a GREAT challenge, and I don't just think that because I already do "move it." :)

Do you get an EXTRA special prize if you already participate?

Cool. Just joined as presidential champion. Thanks for the info I'm going to offer it to my patients.

Since I already do lots of walking, I'm in.

But does engaging in healthy activity, um, between the sheets count???

Just wondering ;-)

JR - It is a great challenge. Sadly, when the Diva received her recognition last year, only 5 other kids had received the certificate. A few more joined the group by the end of the school year. More kids need to get moving!

Scotty - I need to see the proof! ;)

Mike - Fabulous. I hope that they accept the challenge. My mom passed it to everyone with whom she works!

Kat - if you can keep it up for a half hour... it definitely counts!

Bre - Does this mean you are in?? ;)

Aaron - (Big wink) And I didn't write that especially for you. ;)
