The Show Must Go On

The ballet season is nearly over!!  There is just one more little divertissement in June and then... there isn't a ballet class or a need to return to the studio until mid-July!  That, my friends, is something to celebrate.

Last week was stressful though none of the parents could quite understand why.

It was an easy performance from a backstage stand point.  There weren't any quick changes to negotiate.  The costuming was simple and straight forward.  Everything was running smoothly, and yet... we were all stressed.

Saturday, the girls performed quite well.  Beyond having to run to the office to draft photo release forms in order for the pictures to be published, everything went off without a hitch.

Sunday promised to be equally as good as all the butterflies were gone and the girls were relaxed.  Sunday is almost always a better performance.

But it wasn't.

The older girls weren't as in sync with one another... and the Diva fell.

She slipped on a slick part of the stage and down she went.

In the past this would have been a show stopper.  She is that type of kid that, when something goes wrong, she likes to start all over again.

But times have changed and my little girl is growing up.  She fell, quickly picked herself up, and went on with the scene.  Backstage she told me "I just told myself to 'shake it off'" and... she did.  But apparently it is hard to perform when your hip hurts... but she did it and finished her part with flying colors.

I love the show.  The mix of Russian folk music, character dance, and classical ballet was refreshing and innovative.  I love that the directors are willing to change their shows and work with the talent that they have each season.

They all did such a wonderful job... but I have to admit that my favorite part was not the dancing or the music.  It was not the wonderful costumes or the relief felt when all was said and done.

My favorite part was that the Diva demonstrated her professionalism and her love and dedication to the dance, to the show, to her fellow dancers.  There were no tears, no bad feelings.  She performed just like the little professional she is.

If I read one more post about the Diva, I'll kindly request you send me a picture of her in a tu-tu because I feel like already know this kid. :P

Scotty - It is September through mid-June and camp in July. She dances at least 5 hours a week as she does 3 hours in her own class and hellps with another. A lot of ballet!

Aaron - Just watch your inbox!

Teri - Totally fine though apparently the teacher told her today that she (the teacher) was not surprised that The Diva fell. That hurt her feelings but I think it was more a joke as The Diva fell a few times in January just before ballet and scobbed her nose! Lots of girls fell this time; there was a slick spot on the stage.
